After over 42 years in the United States, Jorge Guadrón’s personal story represents the essence of the American Dream.
Born in El Salvador, Guadrón came to the United States as a teenager in 1980 fleeing political violence with his mother and siblings following his father’s assassination in their family business. He became an American citizen in 1996. He is the proud father of five and grandfather of nine children.
For more than four decades in the United States, Guadrón has worked hard and contributed to his community. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Nyack College and worked in the restaurant industry for 18 years; Jorge was a shop steward assistant for the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union, Local 100 in NYC, learning the importance of workers being organized. In 2002, he started his own marketing company, Guadrón International.
Among his successes, Guadrón was awarded Administrator Assistant of the Year in 1993; has been listed as a member in the National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals in 2004, 2007, and 2008.
Now, a successful businessman, Guadrón has actively participated in the civic life of his community, in particular the Salvadoran community, often called the “sleeping giant of Long Island” because of its size and political potential. Guadrón is currently serving his first four-year term as Islip Town Councilman for the 1st District, which includes North Bay Shore, Brentwood, and areas of Central Islip. He has also served as president of the Salvadoran American Chamber of Commerce and United Salvadorans Abroad New York, which engages and empowers Salvadoran Americans in the political process.
As an immigrant who has worked hard to realize the American Dream for himself and his family, Guadrón is convinced that everyone’s American Dream starts in their hometown. Guadrón continues in his commitment to providing Islip residents with safer streets and the Town resources that will improve their quality of life, including affordable WORKFORCE housing initiatives, economic development programs and a sustainable budget process that keeps taxes down.
Guadrón has been elected to four consecutive terms as a member of the New York State Democratic Committee for the 6th Assembly District that includes North Bay Shore, Brentwood, Central Islip, and parts of the Village of Islandia.
Guadrón is convinced that inclusiveness makes a community stronger, and he is committed to providing the kind of leadership on the Town Board that will encourage more people from diverse backgrounds to participate in the life of the Town.
Jorge believes in diversity and inclusiveness in the Town of Islip government. To achieve that, a Latino must be elected to represent more than 110,000 residents of Latino heritage, and financial resources are fundamental in this endeavor! Please donate!
Over 341 years of history of the Town of Islip, never a Latino has been elected to the Town Board. Out of more than 330,000 residents in Islip, almost 110,000 are Latinos, or 1/3 of the town's population. After the voting rights law suit ended in a settlement with Islip Town, 4 Town Districts were created. Districts 1 and 2 are for election of council members in 2021. Now the residents of District 1, formed by Brentwood, North Bay Shore, and areas of Central Islip, can have real representation in the town board!
